About Us

The Low Family opened SATAY Malaysian Grille (SMG) in May 2005 at its former location in the Las Vegas Chinatown. In September of 2008, SATAY Asian Bistro & Bar opened on the other side of the Las Vegas Strip to serve the corporate clientele at Hughes Center and conventioneers. In May 2009, the family decided to sell SMG to concentrate on its current Paradise location.

The passion for cooking spans generations in the Low Family. Grandma was a Nonya (the blending of Chinese cooking techniques with the spices and ingredients of Malay/Indonesian origin) chef who catered to thousands of farmers and factory workers in the home town of Penang.

Mama Low took up her love in the culinary arts when the family moved to the US (Seattle/Tacoma WA) and combined it with her entrepreneur spirit by opening her own catering business serving Malaysian and Chinese food (try Mama's famous Malaysian Chicken Curry). Jan-Ie, the second daughter, took after Mama Low by growing the business while working in Corporate America.

In 2005, while surveying the Las Vegas commercial real estate landscape on a business trip, Jay-Son, the youngest son decided to open the first family restaurant in the Las Vegas Valley. Today, you will see the whole family at the restaurant, either in the kitchen or in the front of the house welcoming guests and friends alike. While recruiting chefs for the opening of SMG, the Low family hired numerous Malaysian, Singaporean, and Chinese chefs to pass along the family recipes and head up its kitchen. Along came a Thai chef by the name of Yawaret (her Thai friends call her A) by way of the famous Thai BBQ in LA, who quickly moved up the ranks with her masterful grasp of the eclectic flavors characteristic of Malaysian cuisine. Today, Chef Amy is not only the Head Chef of SATAY, she is considered a member of the family.
